Insomnia and its effects on the Brain

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder in which an individual fails to sleep even when a person has the chance to do so. Persons suffering with insomnia may have multiple problems such as mental fatigue, low energy, neural problems, mood down, concentration problem, decreased performance at school, college or workplace.

There are two types of insomnia :-

1) Acute insomnia.
2) Chronic insomnia.

Acute insomnia is a shorter duration insomnia. It can be happen due to life circumstances like receiving sad news, night before exam or interview, or any tense moment in the life. Many persons experience this sleeping disorder and it can be resolve without any medication as it is short term insomnia.

Chronic insomnia is a serious insomnia which can be lasts for longer duration. The duration of chronic insomnia can lasts for weeks or at least three months. Chronic insomnia can happen due to numerous reasons and some of the prominent reasons are change in environment,irregular sleeping habits,poor working place,medical disorders and certain medication which can be responsible for chronic insomnia.

Insomnia is not just a sleeping disorder, it is a serious concern for our brain. Insomnia can harm our brain drastically and it can lead to various brain disorders. Some of the main disorders caused by insomnia are discussed below :-

1) Working memory difference- Working memory is the ability to process and store short term information in the brain, which can be used to complete the work in hand. It has been found that people who are suffering from insomnia, their brain showed very less or nil activity. It has been proved that insomnia affects the working capability of an individual.

2) Trouble sleeping- People who are suffering from insomnia have poor sleeping patterns during nights and in the day their brain does not work properly.

3) Lack in focus and concentration- Individuals suffering from insomnia do not focus and concentrate for long term and their focus is fluctuating at every single second.

4) Dangerous for heart- Insomnia can cause heart diseases like high blood pressure, hypertension, stroke, heart attack etc.

5) Harmful for stomach- Insomnia can cause harm to our stomach and digestive system. Due to insomnia, diabetes, weight gain,extra fat storage can take place.
