Human Mind- The Powerhouse of Energy

Do you ever wonder why meditation, pranayam and life force are given so much of an importance?  We often talk about energy and some of us feel and believe that energy is the source of this creation, there are all sorts of energies around us and without energy, nothing sustains. Through this write up, I would like to regiment my focus on energy that is within us and energy which quantum physicists are talking about.  During the earlier days, Yogis had a substantial and healthy life span of up to 150 or even 200 years largely without any pathological illness. We may blame lifestyle, globalization and other factors for this age evaporation to an extent, but there is certainly something more to it.  When the doctors say that with the help of technology they have been able to increase the life span, are they just referring to the quantification factor of it or quality factor too?  We all know the answer I suppose. Our body is made up of 50 trillion live cells. So, we ar...

Usage of Artificial Intelligence in Mental Health Care

What is that one distinct image that we get when we hear the term artificial intelligence? It can be a futuristic utopian environment where everything and everyone is accustomed to the advanced technologies and a perfect tech-savvy world rises. Or AI can also mean the prominent science fiction setups, just like Jarvis and Oscorp tower from the Marvel universe and the Droids from Star War series. But the reality of the world of Artificial Intelligence is quite different from this progressive world of ours. Although we have our upcoming technical advancements , artificial intelligence is still seeing the breaking lights of its dawn in this era of mechanisation. Over the past decade machine learning and AI have undergone through impressionable upgradation and developments that have contributed in areas like automobiles and cryptocurrency. But artificial intelligence and machine learning have also set a benchmark in the field of medical health care too. Big firms like Google, Mic...

Trivializing Mental Health Disorders

Approximately 8 million deaths worldwide are attributable to mental disorders each year. A study conducted by the Word Health Organization in 2015 shows that one in five Indians may suffer from depression in their lifetime, equivalent to 200 million people. With such statistics one would wonder that awareness about the same is widespread and the public is sensitive enough towards people suffering from mental health disorders. Such hopes though are in vain. Often we see people lamenting and calling themselves depressed over a professional or personal loss, or labeling themselves or others with a habit of tidying things and places up as patients sick with obsessive compulsive disorder or call themselves as bipolar because of mood swings they may have or address people with different behaviour than themselves as 'psychopaths' or refer to someone who clicks a lot of selfies as a 'narcissist' . But do we actually understand what these terms mean? Or the implicati...

Effect of Career Pressure on Mental Health

Years pass by to formulate and decide on a definite career path for ourselves . The process is undertaken at quite a young age of an individual. For some the career choice is pre- decided for them by their guardians and for the latter the struggle of choosing from multiple choices of career preferences turns into an undying helix of confusion and self doubting. Even the students who have accomplished in their respective fields have had several doubts and pressure during his or her teenage. Career pressure is something which does not stop even after acquiring a job. It bothers a person to an extent where he or she undergoes constant stress and anxiety. High pressure jobs have often led people to take up psychological aid in order to cope up with the building pressure. Let’s unravel the journey of this pressure which is carried on from time to time , and which quite vividly remains static for a longer period causing an air of lethargy to develop ar...

Human Brain - product of evolution

The human brain, just like every aspect of every organism on the planet, is the product of evolution. If you accept that evolution is true, you can’t avoid that conclusion. That’s why I often get confused when I hear reasonable people being broadly dismissive of evolutionary psychology (EP). EP is simply an approach to psychology that explicitly acknowledges evolution as the designer of brains. This approach may sound non-controversial in principle, at least among those who accept evolution. Nevertheless, many non-creationist critics find plenty of reasons to object to EP, or at least to what they consider EP to be. For examples of some such criticisms see Ed Hagen’s Evolutionary Psychology FAQ. Image result for psychology brain Because many critics of EP would say they accept evolutionary theory more generally, I assume that in criticizing EP they don’t mean to imply that the brain wasn’t designed by evolution. I think they often instead...
