5 Reasons why you should smile more often.

“Paaji, kadi hass vi liya karo.”

Smile, is that expression which is actively adopted as emoticons in our day-to-day messaging.  However, in reality we are always seeking for a reason to smile, because we don’t want to look stupid.

But what if we worked the other way around??

Instead of seeking for reason, why can’t we smile first and let our surroundings be full of Joy.
Here are some reasons why you should smile, not out of the blue, but also to improve your Mental Health. Doesn’t sounds like a serious issue, right??

Well Mental health is one of the most ignored issue in today’s generation and a smile is your Hack to achieve it. Here’s how a smile affects your brain…

1)     A simple act of smiling can transform you and the world around you: It has been agreed by people and current researches prove that smiling is contagious. This way we are not dependent on our environment but we are the origin of its positivity. As smile is contagious, you smile and others catch it too.

2)    It Fights off stress: Every person in this World, regardless of their age is under a lot of stress. A smile activates the release of neuropeptides that work towards fighting off stress. They facilitate messaging to the whole body when we are happy, sad, depressed or excited. The feel-good-neurotransmitters dopamine, endorphins and serotonin are all released when a smile flashes across your face.

3)    Acts as an Anti-depressant: Serotonin release brought by your smile works as an Anti-Depressant/mood lifter. Many of the pharmaceutical anti-depressant focus on improving serotonin levels in your brain. But with your smile you get it for free, without any negative effects and prescription of doctors.

4)    An in-built pain reliever: With release of endorphins while you smile, it lowers your heart rate and blood pressure. Endorphins act as a hundred percent natural pain reliever without any side effects of artificially made medicines.

5)    You gain a better personality: It’s true that people seem attractive when they smile. According to a study published in the journal of Neuropsychologia reported that seeing a smiling face, activates your orbitofrontal cortex, the region I your brain that reads sensory rewards. That’s why people are treated differently when they smile.

These were some of the benefits that your brain can avail from a smile.
Next time you walk in a room fill with people, make sure you carry that benefits-packed smile with you.
