Benefits of leg exercise for Brain

Leg exercise is important and significant for the brain and it boosts the health of the nervous system. Neurological health is an interactive relationship with our muscles and our world. Our neurological health depends as much as on signals or vibrations sent by the body's leg muscles to the brain as it does on directives from the brain to the muscles.

The new study fundamentally alters brain and nervous system, medicine and its giving doctors new clues as to why patients with motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy and other neurological diseases after rapidly decline in their physical movements becomes limited.
The study supports the idea that people who are inactive and unable to do load bearing exercises such as patients who are bedridden or even astronauts who have gone on extended travels, they do not only lose muscle mass, even their body chemistry is deeply altered at the cellular level and their nervous system is adversely impacted.

The study involved restricting mice from using their hind legs, but not their front legs, over a period of 28 days. In that process, the mice continued eat and groom normally and did not exhibit stress. The researchers then examined an area of the brain called the sub - venticular which in many mammals has the role of maintaining nerve cell's health. It is also called the area where neural stem cells produce new neurons. Limiting physical activities will decreased the number of neural stem cells by 70 percent  compared to a control group of a mice which were allowed to roam. Furthermore, neurons did not fully matured when exercise was severely reduced. the research reveals that using the legs, particularly in weight bearing exercises sends signals to the brain that are vital for the production of healthy neural stem cells which are essential for the brain and nervous system.

Cutting back on exercise makes it difficult for the body to produce new nerve cells. Some of the very building blocks that allows us to handle stress. The results shed light on several important health issues ranging from concerns about cardiovascular impact as a result of sedentary lifestyles to insights into devastating diseases, such as spinal muscular atrophy(SMA), multiples sclerosis and motor neuron disease, among others.
